Naples, Toledo station wins the Oscar for Underground Public Works

 

It had previously been awarded the title of “The Most Beautiful of Europe” on several sites and on the pages of the Daily Telegraph. This time, however, Toledo Metro station in Naples competed with the world. And it won a special prize, a kind of ad hoc Oscar, dedicated to the underground public works of every continent.

The Partenope line 1, which was inaugurated in 2012 and designed by the Catalan architect Oscar Tusquets Blanca, was awarded the “International tunneling association” in the category “Innovative Space Use”.

 

The station has beaten nominations of the caliber of Sydney and Jerusalem. The first one, with a project to reconstruct the vehicle access area at the Opera House for pedestrian safety. The second one, a recovery plan of ancient tunnels under Jerusalem.
