30 Years of Moonstruck

30 Years of Moonstruck

If you think there’s no way “Moonstruck” is 30 years old, snap out of it.

The now-classic tale of love, redemption and famiglia, set in Brooklyn Heights and starring Cher, Nicholas Cage and Montclair native Olympia Dukakis, had its premiere on Dec. 16, 1987 in Manhattan, before going into wide release two days later.

With a script by Bronx-born John Patrick Shanley — who would go on to win a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award in 2005 for his play “Doubt: A Parable” — “Moonstruck” provided one of the funniest portraits ever of a dysfunctional (but loving) Italian family.
